Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Polilog and the data we use.

How is the data sourced?
Crime data, neighbourhood boundaries, and team information come from the official Police UK API (data.police.uk). Postcode and place lookups use Postcodes.io. We don’t alter the underlying figures—we surface this open data and add community reviews and ratings.
Can I post a review anonymously?
Yes. You can choose to post anonymously so your review is shown without your name. We never share your identity without your consent.
Why isn’t my area found?
Search works for England, Wales, and Scotland (Postcodes.io place search does not cover Northern Ireland). Try a full postcode (e.g. SW1A 1AA) or the name of your town or police force. If you still don’t get results, the area may not be in the Police UK API coverage—contact us and we can look into it.
What’s the difference between postcode and place search?
Postcode search uses your full UK postcode to pinpoint a location and find the exact neighbourhood and force. Place search looks up towns, villages, or area names and may return several matches—you then pick the one you mean.
Is Polilog affiliated with the police?
No. Polilog is an independent platform. We are not affiliated with any police force, Police and Crime Commissioner, or government body. We use open data and community input to help residents see and review local policing.
How do I report a problem or wrong data?
Use our Contact page or email hello@polilog.ai with “Report” in the subject. We can’t fix the source data ourselves (that comes from the Police UK API), but we can look into display or linking issues.
