Data & methodology
How we source and use policing data.
Sources
We use the Police UK API for forces, neighbourhoods, neighbourhood teams, and street-level crime data. We use Postcodes.io for UK postcode geocoding and place search (Ordnance Survey Open Names). Both are open data services; we do not modify the underlying figures.
Coverage
Police UK data covers England, Wales, and Scotland. Street-level crime is not available for Northern Ireland. Place search (town/village name) via Postcodes.io does not include Northern Ireland. Postcode lookup covers the whole UK.
Crime categories and timing
Crime categories and definitions are those used by the Police UK API. Data is updated by the API providers; we display what they publish. There can be a delay between an incident and it appearing in the data. We do not interpret or reclassify crimes.
Reviews and ratings
Reviews and ratings are submitted by users and are not part of the official Police UK dataset. They represent community feedback and are displayed alongside the official data for context. We do not verify the accuracy of individual reviews but we may remove content that breaches our terms.
Limitations
We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the data. Boundaries, team details, and crime counts are as published by the API. If you spot an error in the source data, you would need to contact the relevant force or data.police.uk. For display or linking issues on Polilog, see our Contact page.
